Professionals working through impostor syndrome. You might feel like you’re just “winging it” and are waiting for the day when you feel like you can relax into your success. This is especially true if you had no role models in your life who did this before you. You might question whether you deserve your success and feel like there is an invisible debt you need to repay in exchange for making it to where you are. Upward mobility may feel inauthentic to you, especially if you have internalized messages about “where you come from.” Learn more about therapy for high-achievers by clicking here.
1st and 2nd generation immigrants and families. I love working with people of all backgrounds, but I find that bicultural communities are often mistrusting of institutions and systems that are designed with others in mind. As first-gens and immigrants, we tend to be typecast into caricatures of ourselves. I never want people to think they can only work with someone who shares their identity, but it is even worse when people feel the need to avoid their own communities. I hope I can help people redefine and reclaim all of their identities. Learn more about therapy for first-generation Americans by clicking here.
Teens who struggle with isolation, depression, and performance anxiety. I have a soft spot for young people who don’t feel comfortable in their own skin, let alone in their families or social circles. It is often everyone around them who is causing the problem, while teens generally are doing okay. In therapy we work to strengthen your voice so that you can speak up for yourself, without making things worse for you.
People who have tried everything (or nothing yet) to overcome past trauma. All of my work is trauma-informed, but I also have specialized training in EMDR. Sometimes people don’t realize they have experienced traumatic events. Yes, I work with veterans and service members who experience PTSD, but I also work with those who have experienced childhood trauma and neglect, or relational trauma from the not-so-distant past. If you have memories of overwhelming experiences, or you can still feel the impact of an event on your life now, you may benefit from EMDR.
